JFJ Expresses Condolences over the Death of Constable Rushton
Monday, March 22, 2010, Kingston, Jamaica - Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is deeply saddened by the vicious killing of Constable Ainsworth Rushton by a motorist last Thursday as the Constable attempted to carry out his duties. We extend our deep and sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
JFJ recognizes the daunting and challenging task the police face in serving, protecting and re-assuring the citizens of this country. Therefore, when members of the police force are tragically slain in the line of duty, it is cause for deep regret, concern and commiseration. This violent attack on the law officer and horrific violation of Constable Rushton’s right to life is a new low point in the cycle of violence and warrants swift legal redress.
JFJ condemns the slaying of Constable Rushton and the continued violence that befalls our nation. The continued rise in the killings of both police and civilians is a scourge on our society and only serves to inflict pain and suffering. As violence continues to sweep our nation, we must ask ourselves what lawful role each of us can play to help curb this self-destructive course.
